About the Diploma Program

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program is a challenging two-year curriculum, primarily aimed at students aged 16 to 19. It is offered at Hirschi High School to 11th & 12th grade students. It leads to a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities. The state of Texas has passed a Senate Bill 111 stating that any student graduating with an IB Diploma may enter any university in the state of Texas with a minimum of 24 college credit hours. However, Hirschi IB Diploma graduates have entered colleges with many more hours. Hirschi graduates have attended schools such as MIT, Harvard, Princeton, and Columbia.

Hirschi became an IB school in 1998 and has graduated hundreds of students as both IB Diploma and Certificate candidates over the years. We currently offer a variety of courses taught at the Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL) to meet the IB diploma testing criteria:

Group 1 - English Literature (HL)

Group 2 - Language Acquisition: Spanish (SL & HL)

Group 3 - Individuals & Societies: History of the Americas (HL)

Group 4 - The Sciences: Biology (SL) and Chemistry (SL & HL)

Group 5 - Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (SL) and Application and Interpretation (SL)

Group 6 - Music (SL & HL), Visual Arts (SL & HL)

IB Diploma Candidates must test in six different areas: three subjects must be at the HL level and three must be at the SL level. A student must earn a minimum of 24 points in order to be awarded the diploma. The tests are scored on a scale of 1-7; a score of 4 is a passing score. Scores are published July 5 of the testing year. Students may choose to re-test after receiving their scores; however, the cost of the re-test(s) must be paid by the student.

Other Diploma Requirements: There are three mandatory components (aside from the tests) that diploma candidates must complete before consideration. Students are required to complete a Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity & Service (CAS) requirements.
